New non-invasive techniques in the diagnosis of inflammatory skin diseases

Taking into account the complex modulatory mechanisms involved and the association with various dermatological conditions, the study of cutaneous inflammatory processes raises a real interest both from the perspective of scientific research and of clinical dermatology. Our paper will present correlations between the clinical aspects of skin inflammatory processes and their dermatoscopic and confocal laser microscopy features. The latter is a skin imaging technique that provides real-time information on both microstructural skin elements and dynamic skin processes. Modern non-invasive skin imaging methods such as dermatoscopy and laser confocal microscopy can be useful techniques in the diagnosis of a wide range of inflammatory skin conditions and can also provide useful information to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of skin inflammation.
